My family was of minor nobility of the glorious King Rodhri the Great. My father was part of his retinue. He ran a small village near the Royal Castle by the sea in return for service to the King in times of war. It was surprisingly large for a village near the sea. But through this village my father and family amassed a small fortune.
When I became of age 16, my father saw it fit for me to swear my loyalty to the King and learn the art of war. I received some basic training before I was set in garrison duty not too far from the Northumbian border.
A year later, the Saxon Kingdom of Northumbria foolishly tried to attack out region. We defeated them and took prisoners. However, the deaths in battle are nothing compared to the deaths in peace. I was ordered to help execute the prisoners. Feeling horrid of my sins, I decided to make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem for atonement.
Remebering the tales of Rome my mother had told, I wondered through Constaninople, in awe of Rome. Figuring that serving the Imperial Guard would help atone my sins, I quickly joined as an axeman and began serving at the Blacharnae Palace, home of the Basilius.
One day, my fellow Guardsmen and I decided to go fishing in the Black Sea. However, returning wasn't as easy, and we landed on a stange shore. I volunteered to search around while the others guarded the boat. I came upon a Greek encampment, and, despite my rusty Greek, I asked around for a location of the strange region. A medium-sized man dressed in fine rich clothing asked where I was from. And I asked him the same. He said,"I am Patras Arron of House Kylech, welcome to Apokrypha my Welsh friend. You look like you might need a job, no?"
As I was lost, how could I say no?
